The Creation of the Flite × Marc Newson Collection
David Trewern and Marc Newson
To celebrate the launch of the Flite x Marc Newson line, David Trewern and Marc Newson came together to discuss their joint project. Over three years, the two visionaries collaborated to create a groundbreaking collection of electric foils.
"We wanted to create something truly special — to remove the constraints that typically exist in such a product. The idea was: if we eliminate those limitations and work together at the edge of what's possible, what could we achieve?" — David.
David Trewern and Marc Newson spoke about their chance meeting, their shared passion for design and technology beyond conventions, and of course, the incredible feeling of flight above the water.
"During the Australian bushfires, we ran a charity auction to raise funds for relief. I noticed Marc watching my Fliteboard. I approached him, and we started talking. I realized we shared the same vision for aesthetics and technology," recalls David.
"It was almost accidental — and yet it felt completely natural. We both wanted to create something that captured the spirit of movement and the connection with the wave," says Marc.
The collection’s flagship model, MN60 Wave, is a foilboard designed specifically for wave riding. Crafted from high-modulus carbon fiber, it weighs just 20 kg and features an advanced eFoil motor system with a 4.57 cm wing.
It also features a new folding propeller that retracts automatically when not in use. These hydrodynamically efficient components reduce drag, allowing riders to surf waves effortlessly without motor assistance.
"These are the lightest and strongest materials available in the industry. They’re difficult to manufacture — requiring specialized production capabilities — but that’s what makes them unique and nearly impossible to replicate," notes Marc.
The range also includes the higher-performance MN60 and the larger, more stable MN86 models. The full collection is available on the Fliteboard website.
